JAVELIN RULES

  • The javelin must be held at the grip.
  • It should be thrown over the shoulder or upper part of the throwing arm and must never be slung or hurled. Non-orthodox styles are not permitted.
  • The competitor in a throw must not touch with any part of their body or limbs, the lines marking the runway, the ground outside the runway, or crosses the throwing arc marking the end of the runway.
  • The javelin must land within the throwing sector lines with the metal head striking the ground before any other part of the javelin. The javelin is not required to stick in the ground.
  • The athlete must not leave the runway until the javelin has landed.
  • An unsuccessful attempt is when:
    • The javelin lands on or outside the throwing sector. Landing on the sector line is a foul.
    • The metal head of the javelin does not make contact with the ground first.
    • The competitor touches the ground outside the runway before the javelin has landed.
    • The competitor leaves the runway before the javelin has landed.
  • Measurement of the javelin shall be from where the metal head of the javelin first struck the ground to the inside edge of the arc with the tape in a straight line through the centre of the circle. (0 end of tape is on the javelin mark (or where the metal head end lands first) and reading is on the inside edge of the arc)
  • Please raise the white flag for a successful put and the red flag if any breaches occur.
  • Record all trials using tape and spike provided. A foul is not measured.
  • Ties broken by 2nd best performance for any places.
  • Weights (Please make sure only the correct weight is put out for use)
