DISCUS RULES

  • The discus can be thrown in any way.
  • The athlete may enter the circle from any direction but must exit from the rear half of the circle.
  • The athlete must not leave the circle until the discus has landed.
  • An unsuccessful attempt is when:
    • The discus lands on or outside the throwing sector. Landing on the sector line is a foul,
    • The competitor touches the circle or the ground outside the circle before the discus has landed, (the competitor may touch the inside edge of the iron band but must not touch the top of the band or the ground outside the circle)
    • The competitor does not leave through the back half of the circle after completing the throw.
  • Measurement of the discus shall be from the nearest edge of the mark made by the discus where it lands in the sector to the inside edge of the toe board, pull tape through centre of circle. (0 end of tape is on the discus mark and reading is on the inside edge of board)
  • Please raise the white flag for a successful put and the red flag if any breaches occur.
  • Record all trials using tape and spike provided. A foul is not measured.
  • Ties broken by 2nd best performance for any places.
  • A throw will be measured and not considered a failure, if after release, it strikes the cage and lands completely within the inner edges of the landing sector, with no other rule being infringed.
  • Weights (Please ensure correct weights are out for each event)
