An unsuccessful jump (foul) is when:
- An athlete does not perform the hop, step, jump sequence.
- The athlete does not finish the jump phase by landing in the pit.
- The athlete’s foot goes over the front edge of the take-off area.
- The athlete takes off with two feet as it would then not be a hop.
- The athlete walks back through the sand towards the take-off area, after landing.
- Any sort of somersault is used.
- In the event of an athlete stopping short of the back edge of the take-off area, then the athlete is entitled to repeat the run up without penalty.
- Please raise the white flag for a successful put and the red flag if any breach occurs.
- Athletes are to notify the Chief Official which mat they will be taking off from before the start of their first jump. This is so the official knows which take-off area to look at.
- Athletes can change boards at any time but must advise the Chief Official of the change prior to the commencement of the jump.
- Chief Official – Stand in line with the front of the take-off board if possible (try and put your body between board and spectators). Watch the triple jump sequence and the front of the board closely during the jump. Make a decision and raise the flag confidently.
- Record all trials using tape and spike provided. A foul is not measured.
- The sand in the landing pit and the take-off area must be levelled after each jump.
Measurement:
- All jumps shall be measured from the nearest break in the landing area (made by any part of the body– this is where the spike is placed), to the front edge of the athletes chosen take-off board. The tape measure is then straightened and drawn tight, so it lays perpendicular (i.e., 90 degrees) to the take-off board or its extension.
- The distance is measured to the nearest whole centimetre below the distance jumped. The zero end of the tape is placed where the athlete lands.
- Ties broken by 2nd best performance for any places.
